5 out of 5 stars Excellent value   June 24, 2010

This is a brilliant traveling companion. It is pretty intuitive and quick to get up and running and connected. The keyboard keys are almost full-sized and pretty easy to use in comparison with other netbooks.
An ideal computer to take on holiday to allow you to keep up with your emails and the battery life is pretty good too.
Excellent purchase.

2 out of 5 stars Good quality but let down by poor detail and wireless perormance   April 19, 2010

I can echo many of the reviews of previous reviewers who have stated that the machine is a dinky and well constructed netbook that is very portable, chic and almost(!) very satisfying.... However, and it is a big however, the wireless performance is shockingly bad. Unless sitting within about 10 feet of the wireless router the signal is patchy...meanwhile other users are getting strong signals at the same time. This is a serious disadvantage, as the main purpose of buying a netbook was to work remote from base. Now I have to get close to the router or risk losing the signal. Even then, the signal will drop out. I have searched the internet and this problem is not confined to my machine, many others out there talk of poor wireless performance of this particular netbook with this wireless driver.

On reflection, I wish I had not purchased the netbook.

Also (minor point) the enter key (chromed bar below the touch pad)is very 'clicky' and I doubt it will last the life of the computer.

Good points - size, battery life (stunningly good), looks, good keyboard
Bad points - wireless performance, clicky mouse keyAsus 1005HA 10-inch Netbook (Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, WLAN, Webcam, up to 8.5 Hours Battery, Windows XP, Windows Live Suite, Black)

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for my needs   April 11, 2010

No other basis for comparison beyond a regular laptop but I believe it is fair to say you can only really evaluate how 'good' a netbook is against your own needs from it. I wouldn't want as a desktop replacement any more than I would want a bicycle as a replacement for a boat. I'm still experimenting with running pupeee linux on this from an sd card which does seem to work pretty well but for the most part I've been running windows xp. Once I loaded the machine up with the software I wanted and the handful of files I need/want on the move the boot times got a fair chunk longer but still not bad, it isn't super snappy when using big bloaty applications to manipulate big files but in all fairness once the initial loading on these things is done normal use is entirely acceptable.

I'm rapidly coming to love owning a netbook and this one is great - the decent battery life isn't something I've put to the test yet but for sure it was a factor in choosing this over other models. The sound isn't great but I've some thoroughly awesome portable speakers that put a cure on that if I really feel the need, the keyboard layout does take a little getting used to but that was to be expected and once again for the vast majority of use it is great.

So I really like this machine and I'm still finding more reasons to like it more. But that is just me.

I bought this shortly before a holiday abroad where wifi was included in the apartmental rental. It is incredibly easy to use and took almost no space in my hand luggage. Communicated by e mail with family and friends while away and spent no money on phone calls. Am really, really pleased with it.
